Hello, my name is Jim and I am the J in DJ SCROLL SAW.
In 1997 my wife, who by the way is an accomplished Tole/Decorative Painter and amongst other things does all of my finishing and painting, decided that she wanted a scroll saw. She purchased a DeWalt and out of curiosity I began experimenting with it, just testing it for her, of course. She never got to use it, because I was on it all the time. The rest, as they say, is history.
Over the past 18 years I have acquired many books on Scroll Sawing. My “how to” book of choice is the Scroll Saw Handbook by Patrick Spielman. This book not only gives the history of scroll sawing, but discusses the various types of saws that existed at the time and the various techniques that are used.
I have acquired literally thousands of patterns over the past 18 years and would like to acknowledge the designer in every instance, where I can. Wood is obviously the medium of choice, but I have used Corian and acrylics.
While reviewing this website you will see numerous examples of many different techniques of scroll sawing. There are techniques that I have not yet tried, but there is still time. I will, however, admit that one of my favorites is compound cutting. You will see examples of this in the Ornament section of the website.
Some sections of this website will contain descriptions of its contents and will, I hope, give the reader some idea of what is involved in the development of the finished product.
